Jumbo Sugar Cookies Reclassified to Most Severe Recall Level
On January 25, Amazon Fresh’s Jumbo Sugar Cookies and its Bake at Home Jumbo Sugar Cookies were voluntarily recalled by Amazon for containing eggs, which wasn’t specified on the packaging labels. Over 300 Jumbo Sugar Cookies and nearly 200 of the Bake at Home variety were recalled.
On March 5, the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reclassified the recall, bumping it up to a Class 1, the highest risk category. Eggs are among the nine most common food allergens, so consuming either of these products could cause severe health complications for someone with an egg allergy.

Oyster Crackers Recalled for Metal Contamination
On February 21, Shearer’s Foods, LLC recalled over 15,000 cases of its bite-size oyster crackers. The crackers—distributed to national supermarket chains Target, Walmart, and Giant Eagle in over 20 states—were recalled because stainless steel wire was found in the product.
On March 11, the FDA initiated a Class II recall. A Class II recall indicates that the crackers could cause “temporary” or “reversible” health consequences. The contaminated product was also distributed in 20-pound bulk packages not meant for sale.

Since then, over 75,000 bottles of coffee creamer have been pulled from store shelves, according to Food Safety News. Because the recall is ongoing, the FDA reclassified it to Class II on March 12.
