Besides helping me feel powered up for the day, I love how endlessly versatile they are. Fresh fruits, dried fruits, nuts, honey, or maple syrup\u2014every possible combination is a good combination.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> But there\u2019s one ingredient\u2014one small upgrade\u2014that has really taken my overnight oats to the next level, and that is cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche.\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-why-add-crme-frache-to-overnight-oats\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text\"> Why Add Cr\u00e8me Fra\u00eeche to Overnight Oats? <\/span> <\/h2>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche isn\u2019t exactly something that I normally keep in my fridge, and it would never have occurred to me to try with my oatmeal if it weren\u2019t for the Brick Oven Bakery. This is my dad\u2019s bakery in Northfield, Minnesota, and it\u2019s their recipe that I originally riffed for the overnight oats that we have here on Simply Recipes.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_8-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> At the bakery, they serve their steel cut oatmeal topped with dried cherries, crumbled pecans, honey, and a generous scoop of cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche right in the middle of it all. Stirred into the steaming oats, the cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche adds just the right amount of richness and creaminess plus a hint of tang that balances the sweetness of the fruit and the oats. It\u2019s breakfast perfection.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Back home, I\u2019ve found that one spoonful of cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche in my otherwise plain jane oatmeal on an otherwise plain jane weekday morning feels like a little treat, all for me. It\u2019s thick and slightly tangy with a silky, rich mouthfeel. The biggest difference between cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche and sour cream is that cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche has a higher fat content.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_18-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Look for cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche in the dairy section at your grocery store. You\u2019ll likely find it either near the sour cream or with the specialty cheeses.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> If you can\u2019t find it, your next best bet is (you guessed it!) sour cream. Besides all of the aforementioned reasons for loving cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche, I find this spoonful cools my oats just enough so that I can eat them right away without burning my mouth.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_26-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> If you\u2019re taking your oats with you to warm up at work or school, you could absolutely add the spoonful of cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche to the jar along with your uncooked oats.
