Just like sprays can damage nonstick cookware, experts warn that they can also harm the popular appliance.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cCooking sprays such as Pam often include soy lecithin, an emulsifier, in the formulation,\u201d says Martin Bucknavage, an expert in food safety in the Penn State Department of Food Science. \u201cThis is less stable than high smoke point oils and will deteriorate at temperatures used for air frying. <strong>This can gunk up your equipment, specifically the tray or basket, and potentially ruin the surface<\/strong>.\u201d So, if your cooking spray includes soy lecithin, avoid using it in your air fryer.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-callout mntl-sc-block-callout mntl-block theme-tip text-passage\" data-tracking-id=\"mntl-sc-block-callout\" data-tracking-container=\"true\">\n<h3 id=\"mntl-sc-block-callout-heading_1-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block-callout-heading mntl-text-block\">Smoke Point<\/h3>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block-callout-body_1-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block-callout-body mntl-text-block text-passage\">\n<p>The smoke point is the temperature where oils begin to smoke. Smoking means that the oil is beginning to break down, and that can cause an unpleasant smell or taste. 400\u00b0F or higher is considered to be a high smoke point. Instead, choose an oil with a high smoke point like avocado, canola, peanut, or sunflower. He also really likes to use ghee for cooking, including in the air fryer.\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heading-toc\" id=\"toc-more-ways-to-keep-food-from-sticking-in-the-air-fryer\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"> <span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text\"> More Ways To Keep Food From Sticking in the Air Fryer <\/span> <\/h2>\n<ul id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">\n<li><strong>Oil your food.<\/strong> Instead of spritzing the basket, toss the food itself in a light coating of oil before using the air fryer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use air fryer liners.<\/strong> There are disposable parchment paper liners that look somewhat like coffee filters, or choose dishwasher-safe reusable silicone liners. You don\u2019t need to use oil with these liners.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Try racks or trays.<\/strong> These inserts are metal racks that keep your food elevated just a bit, which allows even cooking all around. It also keeps your food from touching the bottom of the basket, which prevents sticking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make a foil packet.<\/strong> Arrange your food inside a piece of aluminum foil, and then roll up the sides. Make sure that air can circulate all around the packet.
